CFA registered and DNA PKD tested negative

About Us

Welcome

Hi! I'm Carl Sparks. My cats and I welcome you to Memnon Himalayans - a small smoke-free, DNA tested PKD negative, cageless Himalayan-Persian cattery located in Nashville, Tennessee.

My Cattery Name

My cattery name was created from my love of history.

Memnon of Rhodes (380 – 333 BC) was the commander of the Greek mercenaries working for the Persian king Darius III when Alexander the Great of Macedonia invaded Persia in 334 BC and won the Battle of the Granicus River. He was the only one to declare, prior to the battle, that it was impossible for the Persians to defeat the Macedonian army in a set-piece confrontation, and called for a strategy of scorched earth that would deny Alexander both supplies and treasure, both of which they badly needed to feed and pay the army. This advice was rejected by the Persian satraps, and history was the result.

I am out to create a little Persian (Himalayan) history of my own.

The Cats

Memnon is a CFA and TICA registered Cattery, however to-date I have only had the opportunity to show at CFA events.  My foundation cats have been carefully selected from top catteries and my favorite lines.  They are wonderful examples conforming to the Cat Fancier's Association (CFA) Persian breed standard.

The bloodlines I'm working with include Careyata, Karabel, Brigantina, Teahs, Kurtn Klimer, Sulltan, Oakheaven, Kisicat, Demiara, Brannaway, Cacao, Madame Nu and Don Scandal.

All my cats are routinely checked for PKD as well as communicable diseases. Their vaccinations are always current.

My Goals

Memnon Himalayans is a small cattery and will remain so.

The most important thing to me is to enjoy my cats while keeping them happy and healthy. I will always choose the health and safety of the cat over any sale and retain the right to decline or cancel a sale.

I hope to produce a few litters of kittens as exceptional as my foundation cats... to show them.. grand them... and one day to have kittens with their own distinctive look closely resembling the CFA breed standard.

Philosophy and Beliefs (pass them on)

I believe most readers will already understand the following since I am either restating something said above or it has been implied. I apologize in advance that most of these are stated in the negative.

· I do not raise kittens for the money. Those who get into this to make money will fail miserably and animals are usually hurt in the process.  Read the article on my Breed Information page called “Where the Money Goes” to help you gain an appreciation about the costs of a breeding program.

· I care about the health and safety of my animals first and foremost.

· My conversations are truthful. Some may not always appreciate what I say, but the truth will always be communicated. I always expect the same in return.

· Your ability to pay an adoption fee is not enough to provide sufficient evidence of your competence, desire, or ability and for me to place one of my kittens in your home. All applicants for ownership will be pre-screened.

· Pet mills, shops, research laboratories and those affiliated with such will not be considered for ownership. I will check your references and the process will end upon a dead-end or identification of false information. (Did I mention that I was a fraud investigator at one time?  Now I have.)

· All kittens and cats are sold under contract.

· Persian-Himalayans are a long-haired breed that require DAILY (that means every day and sometimes more than one time each day) maintenance. Please understand what you are getting into before you try to bring one of these precious animals into your home.

· I feed a holistic, natural, no grain, no gluten diet and strongly suggested to all new owners. Solid Gold Indigo Moon™ is a holistic high protein, low carbohydrate, completely grain/gluten free diet designed to more closely resemble the nutrient composition of a cat’s natural diet. Made with high quality chicken meal, fresh chicken, and ocean fish, Indigo Moon™ is extremely palatable, even to the most discerning cat. Indigo Moon™ is formulated to meet the AAFCO Nutrient Profiles for the maintenance of adult cats. I do not have a contract with this company and I do supplement feeding with other healthy products and homemade goodies from sources like Nature’s Variety.

· It is difficult to always be right, but I’ve had sufficient practice and the scars to prove it.

Thank you

Many times thank you to our show/breeder friends at The Nashville Cat Club, Catmandu, Marclay, Mipaws, Fulton Blue, NHisTime, and many others who show great patience with a relative newbie to cat husbandry. They tolerate my endless questions about the show process and grooming.
